No. 1. Les Coulisses des Varietes
Paris: Librarie d'Art, undated (around 1900?). The first of a series, this one a large book, a comprehensive tour of the night life of Paris, with sweeping panoramas of cafe life, some quite rowdy, coupled with vignettes of actresses and other beauties, printed often in distinctive gradating colors of ink, and a variety of pleasing framing devices. About 150 pages of excitement ending with a section of various ladies tucking themselves into bed. Hard to imagine a better book celebrating fin de siecle Paris--so much fun. Bound in leather with marbled boards. Endpapers browned. Some localized edgewear to a handful of pages. Leather spine scuffed, but still strong. Age-toning, sunning to marbled boards at base of front cover. Edgewear.
