London: John Murray, 1862. Four stately leatherbound volumes. The classic of the history of the ancient world, in a handsome signed binding (Riviere and Sons for Marshall Field). With fold-out maps and illustrations scattered throughout. Previous owner's bookplate and owner's signature on marbled endpapers of each volume. Binding in very good condition. Some light rubbing. Spine leather darkened a bit compared to sides. Light wear to extremities, especially corners.
